Suspicious Mind – When Everyone is Out To Get You.

Feeling paranoid that everyone is out to get you.

I stood in the isle with my arms full of beauty products from the drug store and I was convinced everyone was out to get me.

I’m a very indecisive person when it comes to shopping. I have always assumed that when I put something back, walk away, pick it up again, put it back, take three more items, put those back and then go back to the first thing I picked up that I have been flagged by the video surveillance dude and the fifty-year-old white male who is lingering behind me is not there because he needs good eye lash glue for his model train hobby. Secret shopper. You can always tell.

But, this one particular day during the height of my anxiety I started noticing myself become very paranoid. Are you a secret shopper, are you a secret shopper, are YOU a secret shopper?! Now, I haven’t shop lifted since I was on a dare in grade 6 and I feel remorse every time I look through my scented sticker collection (30 years and they still smell!!) from junior high and I don’t ever plan on it again. But, as innocent as I was in action and intention, in that moment a few years ago when I stood in the isle clutching my products. I was CONVINCED Everyone was out to get me!

It wasn’t until I was mumbling to myself in the car ride home when the Holy Spirit said to me… “You’re paranoid”

Yay, a new anxiety symptom!!! WOOT!

In that moment, I was aware of this suspicious mindset and I was able to nip it then and there. The only time I feel suspicious now is when my children are all quiet.

Obviously, there are people who deal with severe paranoia from other serious mental health issues and I won’t be touching on that today. But what I want to talk to you about is when you find yourself saying things like…

“Nobody understands me”

“Everyone is out to get me”

“Why is everyone so mean to me all the time?”

“Everyone is jealous of me”

“Everyone is so small minded”

“They all hate me”

“They are all so judgmental of me”

“I’m always left out”

and so on…..

Then you, my dear friend, are dealing with a suspicious mind, clutching your self worth and pride against your chest thinking that everyone is out to get you.

It amazes me, and I’m sure I have been like this at times, when a person complains about ‘everyone’ vs ‘them’ when –  9.5 times out of 10 its not the ‘everyone’ its … ‘them’

Do you see this in your own life? What tapes constantly repeat over and over again as you interact with others in your life? It’s time to give that to God.

9.5 times out of 10 it’s shame. That voice that tells you that you are not worthy or good enough. If shame is an issue for you, make sure you have recieved your free e-book The Shame Project here. 9.5 times out of ten, it’s you not having a clear image of who God is and who you are in him. and 9.5 times it’s pride and self protection that has you eyeing others up and down.

Genesis 3:10 – He said (Adam), “I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid myself.”

God wants to release you from the lie that everyone is out to get you and give you a healthy mind that understands that others are doing the best that they can with their lives and that when you believe a paranoid lie then you often receive what you put out. For example, do you feel everyone just ignores you? Do you sit in the back of the room, quiet, longing for someone to notice you, telling yourself the whole time that nobody notices you? Or, you feel that nobody understands you, yet you talk over people and never listen to them because you’re trying so desperately to be understood and you’re judging them for not having super powers to read your mind.

I  believe that we create what we think in our lives. Change how you think, change how others respond to you.
