The Only Sassy ‘WORD’ You Need For 2017!

2017…

In the past as I take time to reflect on the previous year, I often feel led to a ‘word’ that will foreshadow and set the tone for the year approaching.

In previous years I have had words like… A year of learning, a year of sorrow, a year of harvest and so on. Taking time to reflect with God can be such a powerful combining of your desire and will for the future and God’s truth and heart. Sometimes it’s not the word you had hoped for like (wealth or skinny) but God’s way of preparing you for a more trying year with the promise that He’s got you. But whether exciting or a warning God’s Words ALWAYS hold HOPE.

MY WORD for 2017…

This year my ‘word’ came in a text message from a friend on Boxing Day…

I had shared with my friend how I had taken two moments to sneak away and cry. Not because of Christmas or any circumstance but one of those refreshing cries that you just needed. It’s like a deep breath before walking into a new situation but with more snot and chest heaving.

It has been an AMAZING year for me and also an AMAZINGLY TOUGH year, both requiring a lot of my time, attention and energy. Interesting that my word for 2016 was Roller coaster hmmm … (Nah.. God doesn’t speak today, that’s crazy talk!)

Then my friend texted…

“I’m surprised you only cried twice after the year you’ve had” she wrote and then she proceeded to list in great detail the last 12 months of my life. The good, the amazing and the moments on the roller coaster where you don’t dare look and you grip your neighbors thigh begging to get off while screaming “I’M GONNA DIE, WE’RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!!! that are hard.

My first thought was “man, she pays attention to my life, people still do that?”  and my second thought was “wow I can’t believe I survived this year and only cried twice…” and then she continued…

BUT… if you lived through all that in one year, then God has created depth in you to contain and handle what will be poured out in your future. And the things that were so hard this year will actually help you say “Hell, no!” to other things in the future. And you will be able to walk with clearer focus for your purpose.

BANG!! And just like that God threw my Word into my lap for 2017.

“OH HELL NO!”

Jesus Had A Powerful “Oh Hell No!”

For those of you who think that Jesus would never say that I challenge you to reflect on Matthew 21:12

Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.13“It is written,” he said to them, “ ‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’e but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’f ” (NIV)

Jesus walked into a place that was meant for worship and raised a big ‘Oh Hell No!’ over how God’s house was being treated.

In Matthew 23:13 Jesus confronts the Pharisees with his judgment, saying Oh Hell No! You’re no longer holding back my sheep from my forgiveness and love.

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. (NIV)

What I’m reading in 2017 –

What is a “Hell No!” Year?

A “Hell No!” year is a year where you decide that Satan is not going to rob you of your life any longer. It means the areas in your life that you have found yourself trapped in needs a “heck No! (if you prefer) I’m not living like this anymore!”

For me it’s boundaries “Oh H double hockey sticks NO!” you’re not robbing my peace and joy anymore!

Or perhaps it’s our minds keeping us caught in a cycle of anxiety, depression or negativity.

Maybe this is your “H.N!” year?

Maybe it’s your year to stop being the YES Man/Woman and you start throwing out some NO’s! Maybe you’re a bit of a diva and you need to tell yourself “Hell No!” once and a while.

Ask yourself what is holding you back from living life fearless and free and show it some attitude!

How To Claim your ‘Word’

2017 is going to be an amazing year of breakthrough for many of us, I am sure of it. However, I deeply believe that breakthrough is always proceeded by a break forth attitude!
