4 Fear Quotes That Will Make You Braver

Quotes are a powerful tool to inspire and kick us into gear. We get a well thought out sentence, created by people who have walked through the very thing we are trying to have victory in. I had to start this blog post with a quote from the Dekker!

A luz do outro lado da ponte

Fear Quote 1:

Turn to the light. Don’t fear the shadow it creates.  – Ted Dekker

I met Ted Dekker, New York Times Best selling author a few years ago. I actually had the privilege of sitting up with him and a few others until 2am, the night before he was the keynote speaker at a writer’s conference. He talked a lot about fear. Little did he know, that I was just on the edge of overcoming my anxiety, and I was still quite unstable. It was as if he had a prophetic sense, as he reached over, put his hand on my shoulder and said “be free sister, don’t be afraid, be free.” It was so odd, because he knew nothing about me, but it was exactly what I needed to hear.

I love this quote because it completely reflects our human nature to turn from God, in fear of God highlighting our weaknesses and sins. We must remember, no matter how painful it is, nothing that is hidden in darkness can be healed, so step into the light. Be free, sisters and brothers, don’t be afraid, be free!

Fear Quote 2:

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
Frank Herbert

This quote is the essence of what I have tried to pass on in my Fearless in 21 Days series. It’s not about running away from fear, or even fighting it, but giving it permission to be there, and allowing it to pass.  I love how this quote points out how fear has the power to choose our path for us, but when we let it pass through us, we realize that there was never anything to fear, and we get the power back to choose a different path and face the next fear that comes along.

Fear Quote 3:

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. Eleanor Roosevelt

You must do the thing which you think you cannot do. Click To Tweet

What is it in your life you don’t think you can do? Or what is it in your life that your fear is telling you to avoid? It is so true that confidence is built from facing fears, by doing things you thought you couldn’t do. Facing our fears is the first step to freedom. What little thing can you (me) do today to face fears?

Fear Quote 4:

What is a fear of living? It’s being pre-eminently afraid of dying. It is not doing what you came here to do, out of timidity and spinelessness. The antidote is to take full responsibility for yourself – for the time you take up and the space you occupy. If you don’t know what you’re here to do, then just do some good. – Maya Angelou

If you don't know what you're here to do, then just do some good. - Maya Angelou Click To Tweet

I think this quote comes down to a simple thought, that we are so preoccupied with our own self, diet, exercise, health, relationships, pride, success, etc.,that it makes us spineless and fearful. Knowing our purpose and why we are here will help us to break free from the fear of living.
