Day 10 – Healing Scriptures part 1

You will never fully heal, never fully feel whole, or feel released from fear until the word of God becomes your daily portion.

Let me tell you a little side story.

A few weeks ago I ventured into a really stupid low-fat diet. I was wanting to go cold turkey off of sugars and junk food, and I needed a push to start losing weight. I was eating super healthy foods and eating every 2 hours, but the portions were small and low calorie and it was a drastic change from my previous eating habits. Day 1 -was tough, I just wanted a cookie so bad! Day 2 –  I felt physically off and by day 3 -I felt my cravings subside and my appetite decrease. I was doing great and noticing some weight loss too. My plan was to only do it for 10 days and then go back to a reasonable calorie count. ( I made it to 6 days.. fail)

What the heck does this have to do with reading our bible?! I’m getting there….

I got to day 5, and I cheated, just a little, but I had a few bites of my sons Mac & Cheese.

Goose bumps filled my spine and I literally shivered and went “ooooooooo”. My body leaped!

As the days went on I started getting moody. So moody I didn’t like to be around myself. “It can’t be the diet” I told myself, cause I’m not hungry, and I’m doing fine; I’m eating a balanced meal, I’m getting good nutrition…. blah blah blah  My husband was avoiding me and my children were leery. So I quit.

….a few days after that…..

I was browsing online when an encouraging scripture came onto my page feed, and Goose bumps filled my spine and I shivered, and went “oooooooooo.”My spirit leaped!

“What was that?” I asked myself…that was a weird response.

I started getting moody, depressed, and even a bit anxious and I was just all together off. I asked the Lord what was wrong and he said as clear as my heart can interpret “Just like your body was in starvation mode, so is your spirit”

OUCH…. that was a tough word.

But God was absolutely right.

The thing with starvation is that your body doesn’t even signal that it needs food anymore, even though your body is damaging itself. There are no more cravings, and no more hunger pangs. It’s the body’s way of not tormenting itself over lack of food. The same goes with spiritual starvation, eventually we lose the cravings for God and His word, and eventually we have no appetite. In fact, sometimes when we have gotten our bodies into deep starvation mode it actually begins to detest food, and even the sight of it is nauseating.

 Can you relate spiritually?

When we become spiritually starved, our spirit begins to deteriorate without us even knowing, but it shows up in symptoms like anger, fatigue, depression, insecurity, lack of faith, and yes ANXIETY!!!

I am here to tell you, that this is not just a ‘feel good’ message. There is nothing more central to the Christian faith and our belief in Jesus Christ than to know that He is the source of our spiritual nourishment. Not Christian books (though they are great and needed), not your pastors (though they are great and needed) and not your christian radio shows or television (though they are helpful), not even MY BLOG!!!! WHAT?!

Nothing will truly satisfy us but the direct Word of God!

THE WORD IS ENOUGH (past post)

God says that without it, we go hungry, and hunger leaders to starvation and starvation eventually leads to death..

“He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD.”  Deuteronomy 8:3

“Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost.Isaiah 55:1

“For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.John 6:33-35

There were times I was in such despair that I literally clutched my bible, knowing that my answer to freedom was in it! A lot of the scriptures that I have been sharing throughout this series were scriptures that pulled me out of some pretty dark spaces.

I am going to post shortly after this post a list of scriptures that bring healing for anxiety, depression and hopelessness. I was originally going to just do scriptures for this post, but I kept hitting a wall. So I spent sometime praying and this is why I felt led to not list scriptures in this post.

The word of God lives in you. Which means, the Holy Spirit is working on your behalf to bring you closer to the Father. He knows your heart, your past, your failures, your future, your strengths and your weaknesses. I don’t. The scriptures that the Lord showed me during my season in Hell, was for me. Specific to me, breathed on by the Holy Spirit, who is working on my behalf to lead me right into the arms of my loving father. He used the word to walk me through past abuse, he has used the word to speak to my specific fears. No generic  scripture that has the word “do not fear” in it will release you. It’s the HOLY spirit who leads you to the word and breathes life into it. That’s how scriptures heal, that’s where deliverance comes from, that’s where the POWER is!!!!

Do you get it?

“I, the LORD, am your God, Who brought you up from the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.” Psalms 81:10

You need to cling onto the word of God like it is your only meal of the day. Do not let troubles, rain, or fear keep you away. You ask God to show you ‘Daily!’. Forget about trying to do a devotional, or follow a reading plan when you are in this anxiety crisis. Those things are good, and you will need them for sustaining your appetite and increasing your discipline. But what you need right now is a spiritual IV. You get before God and you hug your bible and you say “God, I know that all I need is in here! Show me!” and you search and you keep asking, and you keep knocking and the words will come alive. He will show you what to read, he will show you what is for you.

Do you believe that when God created The Word that he had you in mind for this exact purpose when he wrote it. I DO!

Blessings today! I am praying for you all!

RECAP :

Just as our bodies can suffer physical starvation, so can our spirits

God says that He is the bread of life

What is bread? HIS WORD

The word is ineffective without the Holy Spirit.

APPLICATION:

Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to scripture set aside just for you. Mediate on the word of God and see the power of the word unfold in your life!

Hi Sarah. Excellent post. I witness with your counsel. When I was in the throes of anxiety and depression, the Bible was my lifeline. Many times I wondered if it was making any difference, but little by little, the Word was germinating and preparing me for freedom. I am in full agreement that we MUST make this a priority in our life. Keep up the good work.
